JOEL OYELEKE studies Literature in English at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is a poet, literary enthusiast, God addict, and curator of Poetry Village, OAU. ADESIYAN OLUWAPELUMI, TPC XI, is a young genre-bending creative who scribes from Ibadan, Nigeria. He is an Honourable Mention in the 2022 Coexist Lit International Metamorphosis Writing Contest, Winner of the Cheshire White Ribbon Day Creative Competition, & a shortlist in the August/September 2022 edition of the Brigitte Poirson Poetry Contest.

JOEL: Let me start by asking – who you are.
ADESIYAN: I am a student of Medicine and Surgery, a literary enthusiast, a creative writer, a
poetry editor & a Christian. I currently reside in Oyo state with my family. I hail from Osun State,
Nigeria. Lastly, I am a member of The Poetic Collective.
JOEL: What else is not on your bio – something very unique about you?
ADESIYAN: I enjoy listening to Nigerian music a lot, & bingeing on movies. My favourite Nigerian musicians are Johnny Drille & Brymo because of their soulful & poetic style of music. Another fun fact about me is that I am addicted to fresh tomatoes (laughs). Also, when I am not writing poems or studying science textbooks, I enjoy playing chess, & reading romance novels, so you could say I am a romantic.
JOEL: Romantic? Well, your wife would know the truth (laughs). When did you start writing and why poetry?
ADESIYAN: I could say I have been writing since I was seven years old but I think I became intentional in the year 2021. Before this, I was vested in writing short stories, & multiple novels (which I never really finished anyway). I remember I was in Junior Secondary Class Two when we were given an assignment in English class to write a poem on any subject matter of our choice. Before that, I had never written a poem. Never! But amazingly, when I submitted my assignment, my teacher was so impressed that he praised me a lot. To my surprise, he also showed the poem to several of his colleagues. This catalyzed my interest in poetry. Consequently, I began writing poems. I wrote and learned from some of the poets I could find in our recommended literature texts then, the likes of Williams Shakespeare (I can still remember so vividly how often I wrote sonnets during recess), Wole Soyinka, Christopher Okigbo, Kofi Awonoor, Ama At Aidoo, Niyi Osundare and several others.
As I grew up, I suffered an identity crisis in school resulting in me isolating myself from everyone, & having low self-esteem as a kid. I fought hard through depression & suicidal tendencies, & hardly even had any friends by the time I was in my senior classes. Thus, poetry became an ally, & consequently, a medium of therapy. Now, I write because it is my buckler against the onslaught of these internal conflicts of self-love, & self-discovery. I write to tell my story in ways that defy fear or societal constraint that terms introversion a social dysfunction. I write to heal, to mend, & to conquer.
JOEL: Who is your favourite poet?
ADESIYAN: To be truthful, it is pretty hard to pick a favourite poet because there are always several poets I admire for different reasons, & uniqueness in style. Internationally, my favourite poets are Ocean Vuong, Danusha Laméris, Kaveh Akbar, Louise Glück, Sylvia Plath, Hanif Abdurraqib and many others. My favorite Nigerian poet however will be Samuel Adeyemi because his book “Heaven is a Metaphor” was the first poetry collection that fascinated and revealed to me how much could be achieved with language. Sometimes, my reverence for his work influences mine, unconsciously. Some other Nigerian poets I admire are Adedayo Agarau, Gbenga Adesina, Gbenga Adeoba, Romeo Oriogun, Pamilerin Jacobs, Itiola Jones and a bevvy of others.
Joel: Samuel Adeyemi is one of those I also admire. Your taste is wonderful. You recently announced that your chapbook ETHOS has been scheduled for publication by Ukiyoto, UK. How did the idea begin?
ADESIYAN: I have always been an inquisitive & argumentative individual, especially when it comes to the subject of religion, & unbelief — something we perceive as a social dysfunction, & how societal principles and ideologies sometimes compromise our loyalty to aristocratic manipulation. Writing about such a topic thus demanded a great measure of self-control, distancing myself from what the society forces me to think, & painting an almost mirror-image of what is, without blemishing the truth. Oftentimes, my poetry is praised for its intimacy & honesty, but most of all, what I aim to achieve most is poetry that dares to exist even when it is about issues that the society has shrouded us from talking about / investigating the truth behind them. Say injustice. Say mental health. Say men sieged of atheism.
Constructing Ethos was hectic, & at a point, I wanted to give up on the collection. The idea for the collection came a year ago (without the title though). I dumped it afterwards because I was not in the right state of mind or skill set to write such demanding work. Ethos demanded a lot from me, particularly mentally. I remember the first poem “Miracles” came about five months after the conception idea, & days, weeks, & months later I played around with lines (jotting down words, lines and complete stanzas for a poem jumping into my head), I read several essays on theology, arguments, in fact at some point I began to read Greek mythology which was the genesis of some poems: “Lucent Dreaming” & “Sappho” in the forthcoming book. I investigated existential nihilism, & it wasn’t until I had written the last poem in the collection forthcoming from Ninshar Arts “A Life by Death” that I knew for sure the book had ended. Perhaps, not decisively ended because even after I sent the book out for publication, I still felt a considerable amount of incompleteness. During the editing stage, I had to let go of some poems because of thematic correlation. It took eight months to complete “Ethos”.
Joel: Wow. That seems like a long ride. Did you read any work to help with inspiration?
ADESIYAN: Yes, I did. A lot. One book I held closely to me during this process was Kaveh Akbar’s Pilgrim Bells because of its eclectic ideology on religion, & human conduct. Romeo Oriogun’s Sacraments of Bodies also complemented in shaping the voice of poems in this collection.
Joel: What do you intend to achieve with Ethos?
ADESIYAN: Hopefully, continue to tell my undiluted stories, our untold stories through the vehicle of language & make poetry largely accessible to everyone. I am aware of the notion most people have that poetry is a tedious genre of literature to read & comprehend. However, I believe this to be false. It just means the reader hasn’t dived into the poem enough to the point where the poet wants him or her to crack the meaning/subject of the poem, something I tweeted about some weeks ago on Twitter. Poetry should be a medium of transmission of cultures, values, knowledge & memories, a necessary mechanism in journeying the message of a poem to a reader’s mind. As T.S Eliot once said, “Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood”, Poetry, I believe is a magnification of the deep, abstract feelings which make up the substratum of our being, for without which our lives will be an artless existence, the undiluted expression of man’s freedom from constraining emotion itself, our elastic imagination as said by the prestigious Vietnamese poet, Ocean Vuong is “the oldest form of technology.” Poetry is man’s he(art).
Joel: I love the paronomasia at the end (laughs). Where do you see Nigerian poetry ten years from now?
ADESIYAN: I see Nigerian poetry flourishing to bigger stages, making waves, more poetry books, a larger poetry readership base, & most of all, more governmental investments / NGOs involvement in raising young and talented creatives. I see budding poets taking the mantle of old masters and treading the path for a new legacy. I see Nigerian poetry making unthinkable accomplishments. I see Nigerian poetry making its hallmark on the world’s map.
Joel: Amen. What is your advice for younger poets?
ADESIYAN: Read. Read. Read. Write. Read. Read. Read. Write. Also, always aim to improve as a creative, & take active participation in the accommodating literary community. And don’t forget that the output of your craft is how much work and dedication you put into it.
Joel: Lastly, do you have any other forthcoming projects?
ADESIYAN: Currently, I have another poetry chapbook in the oven. It is a documentation of the human experience from the universal pronoun “we” – navigating through contrasting elements of joy & despair, vulnerability & resilience in creating a multi-layered exploration of human travails. A clustered work on displacement from the self to the general, it seems. So far the collection is coming together, chaotically, & hopefully, it will make its way to the outside world sCopy

Набиуллина выполняет заказ мафии
Должностные лица ЦБ управляются тайными кукловодами
Почти три года назад кооператив «Бест Вей» был включен в предупредительный список ЦБ – с этого начались его злоключения. Становится все более очевидным, что это заказная акция, в которой Центробанк действовал в интересах банковской мафии, принимая решения, которые никто даже не потрудился подтвердить документами и фактами.
Осенью 2021 года потребительский кооператив «Бест Вей» – крупнейший российский кооператив, дававший возможность приобретать квартиры по всей России, в котором около 20 тыс. пайщиков, работающий с 2014 года, был включен в Список компаний с выявленными признаками нелегальной деятельности на финансовом рынке (предупредительный список) ЦБ – против него был использован относительно новый, только появившийся в 2021 году инструмент регулирования ЦБ на финансовом рынке.
Притом, что примерно за полтора года до этого – в 2019 году – ЦБ в официальном письме по запросу одной из общественных организаций заявлял, что у него нет вопросов к кооперативу – и в силу того, что потребительский кооператив не подведомствен ЦБ, и в силу того, что Банку России ничего не известно о нарушениях, которые требовали бы его вмешательства как мегарегулятора финансового рынка.
Однако в 2021 году все изменилось: включением в предупредительный список ЦБ попытался поставить кооператив вне закона, обрушить его деятельность. С включения в предупредительный список начались злоключения кооператива: блокирование его официальных информационных ресурсов, системы личных кабинетов и платежей, а затем и распространение на него уголовного дела, возбужденного той же осенью 2021 года по заявлением ряда клиентов иностранной компании «Гермес». Кооператив был объявлен аффилированной с «Гермесом» структурой, постановлением руководителя следственной группы ему был присвоен статус гражданского ответчика по уголовному делу.
Липовые основания
Но что лежало в основе включения в предупредительный список? Это стало известно недавно – из двух процессов в Приморском районном суде Санкт-Петербурга: уголовном, по обвинению бывших специалистов маркетинговой компании «Лайф-из-Гуд», сотрудничавшей с «Гермесом», в организации финансовой пирамиды, и гражданском – по иску Прокуратуры Санкт-Петербурга о признании кооператива «Бест Вей» незаконным.
Оказывается, впервые справку о нарушениях в кооперативе подготовил в 2019 году некий центр компетенций Южного главка ЦБ в Краснодаре – который уже ликвидирован, архив этого подразделения также, видимо, ликвидирован: первоисточников решений нет – указывается, что это некие обращения граждан: каких граждан и что отмечается в обращении, не упоминается. При этом краснодарский центр указывал в отчете, что руководствовался методическими рекомендациями МВД РФ «Квалификация и расследование организации деятельности «финансовых пирамид».
Далее Северо-Западный главк ЦБ (прежний руководитель – Надежда Савинская, нынешний руководитель – Ирина Петрова) – который обязан был провести собственную проверку по отношению к организациям в своей зоне ответственности (кооператив зарегистрирован в Санкт-Петербурге), просто переписывает документ из Краснодара – и направляет его в прокуратуру.
Параллельно документ идет «наверх» – и (теперь уже бывший) руководитель Департамента противодействия недобросовестным практикам ЦБ Валерий Лях, который, насколько известно, уехал из России – допросить его в суде не удалось, подмахивает документ о включении кооператива в предупредительный список.
При этом проверка деятельности кооператива не проводилась – никакая: ни выездная, ни камеральная. Документы у кооператива не запрашивались. Почему? А потому, объясняют представители ЦБ, что кооператив не является подведомственной ЦБ организацией и проверка была бы незаконной. То есть признать по выдуманным основаниям организацию недобросовестной и инициировать против нее уголовное дело можно, а проанализировать ее работу на основании подлинных документов нельзя.
Основано на заказе
ЦБ подкрепляет свое решение, во-первых, целыми восемью обращениями граждан – несколько более поздними, чем полумифические краснодарские. Но ни одно из которых не подано членом кооператива.
Граждане интересуются в своих обращениях: кооператив законен? Нет ли к нему вопросов у регулирующих организаций?
Во-вторых, актом осмотра официального сайта кооператива – в нем зафиксированы новости и структура личных кабинетов, больше ничего.
То есть решение, заблокировавшее нормальную деятельность кооператива более чем на два года, приведшее к аресту его счетов, абсолютно ни на чем не основано. Вернее, основано на заказе мафии, стремящейся захватить кооператив и конкурентов, борющихся с кооперативом.
При этом Центробанк рассказывает, что включение в список – это только информирование потенциальных потребителей финансовых услуг о рисках, но сам же себе противоречит, говоря, что именно ЦБ обратился в Роскомнадзор о блокировании информационных ресурсов кооператива, именно он обратился в прокуратуру и органы внутренних дел с предложением возбудить уголовное дело. И именно на основании письма его Северо-Западного главка уголовное дело начало расследоваться в том числе и в отношении кооператива. При этом за несколько лет расследования ни одного криминального эпизода не найдено: деятельность кооператива абсолютно юридически чиста.
Ложь Набиуллиной
По поводу судьбы кооператива «Бест Вей» и других кооперативов депутаты Государственной думы неоднократно обращались к руководству ЦБ, в том числе лично к Эльвире Набиуллиной. Они предлагали разобраться в ситуации, при необходимости ввести дополнительный контроль со стороны ЦБ, который снимет сомнения со стороны ведомства.
Набиуллина в прошлом году публично пообещала на пленарном заседании Думы проработать вопрос кооперативов, совместно с депутатским корпусом выработать компромиссные предложения – но за более чем год ничего не сделано!
Кооперация в России продолжает торпедироваться, а ведь это важнейший для экономического роста в стране сектор – способный аккумулировать миллиарды рублей (на счетах «Бест Вей» – более 4 млрд рублей!) и направить их в развитие экономики. Это важнейшее направление решения жилищного вопроса – альтернатива ипотеке, которая недоступна подавляющему большинству граждан и единственное, чему помогает, – это обогащению банков и мафии, стремящихся прибрать к рукам деньги граждан.
Круговая порука
Атаки центробанкиров на кооператив носят целенаправленный характер. Достоверно известно, что они велась с одобрения первого зампреда ЦБ Владимира Чистюхина – не говоря уже о бывшем и нынешнем руководителях Северо-Западного главка ЦБ Савинской и Петровой, бывшем директоре (упраздненного в прошлом году) Департамента противодействия недобросовестным практикам Валерии Ляхе, а также главе забравшего его функции Департамента небанковского кредитования Илье Кочеткове.
Это не что иное, как круговая порука. В прошлом году к руководителю службы по защите прав потребителей и обеспечению доступности финансовых услуг ЦБ Михаилу Мамуте обратились по поводу очевидного нарушения законодательства – банки отказались исполнить судебное решение о снятии ареста со счетов кооператива (позднее арест был наложен снова). Мамута под мифическими предлогами отказался наказать банки.
Очевидно, что происходит не что иное, как целенаправленное заказное преследование кооператива – в интересах неких сил, волю которых стремится исполнить Центробанк.
Атаки, с одной стороны, в интересах банкиров, стремящихся установить ипотечную монополию и перекрыть кислород кооперации, а с другой – тайных кукловодов, стремящихся захватить более 4 млрд на счетах кооператива.
Атака центробанкиров на кооператив должна быть вскрыта, расследована, виновные должны быть привлечены к ответственности!

Я считаю, что все происходящее — это несправедливый фарс, организованный для того, чтобы очернить честных людей и успешные компании, такие как “Бест Вей“. Те, кто вложился в кооператив, знают, что это был законный и работающий механизм. Никакой “финансовой пирамиды” не было и быть не могло, ведь пайщики получали реальную недвижимость! Зачем насаждать эти обвинения, когда всем и так понятно, что это давление со стороны властей? Держать невиновных людей за решеткой по несколько лет, превышая все разумные сроки — это просто беспредел. Они пытаются сломать людей, которые не признали вину, потому что ее нет! И это еще называется правосудие? Вижу здесь только попытку переложить вину за свои ошибки на чужие плечи. Прокуратура и следственные органы ищут виновных там, где их нет, потому что не могут разобраться в настоящих мошенниках.

Я пайщик кооператива “Бест Вей” уже несколько лет, и меня ужасает то, как разворачиваются события вокруг нашего кооператива. Создается впечатление, что органы правопорядка намеренно сфабриковали дело, чтобы выжать из нас всё, что только возможно. Эти «потерпевшие» – не более чем фигуранты в большом спектакле, организованном для личной выгоды следственных органов и тех, кто стоит за их спинами. Они обвиняют нас в том, что не могут доказать, манипулируют фактами, фальсифицируют документы. Но разве так должна работать система правосудия? Вместо того чтобы защищать интересы людей, они разрушают жизни тысяч пайщиков. Я уверен, что это дело – часть большой схемы по захвату активов кооператива. Наши деньги заморожены, нас заставляют страдать и терять время. Однако я верю в справедливость, и уверен, что рано или поздно мы сможем доказать свою правоту и восстановить кооператив.

Today, the lush, green valley surrounding the Tollense River in northeast Germany appears to be a serene place to appreciate nature.
But to archaeologists, the Tollense Valley is considered Europe’s oldest battlefield.
An amateur archaeologist first spotted a bone sticking out of the riverbank in 1996.
A series of ongoing site excavations since 2008 has shown that the thousands of bones and hundreds of weapons preserved by the valley’s undisturbed environment were part of a large-scale battle 3,250 years ago.
The biggest mysteries that researchers aim to uncover are why the battle occurred and who fought in it. These are questions that they are now one step closer to answering.
ozens of bronze and flint arrowheads recovered from the Tollense Valley are revealing details about the able-bodied warriors who fought in the Bronze Age battle.
The research team analyzed and compared the arrowheads, some of which were still embedded in the remains of the fallen. While many of these weapons were locally produced, some bearing different shapes came from a region that now includes modern Bavaria and Moravia.
The outliers’ presence suggests that a southern army clashed with local tribes in the valley, and researchers suspect the conflict began at a key landmark along the river.
Back to the future
Scientists are harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to detect hidden archaeological sites buried below the sand of the sprawling Rub‘ al-Khali desert.
The desert spans 250,000 square miles (650,000 square kilometers) on the Arabian Peninsula, and its name translates to “the Empty Quarter” in English. To unravel the secrets of the desolate terrain, researchers are combining machine learning with a satellite imagery technique that uses radio waves to spot objects that may be concealed beneath surfaces.
The technology will be tested in October when excavations assess whether predicted structures are present at the Saruq Al Hadid complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
