WE ARE PREGNANT!

It was supposed to be a beautiful Wednesday morning with the sun up in all its glory, and the birds chirping. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. Three months earlier, we had gladly taken our marital vow at the altar before the congregation of God’s people. We were not expecting to be pregnant so soon as my wife and I had wished to wait for a year before getting pregnant but we did not intend to use any contraceptive or preventive measure. We were just getting to know ourselves and acquainting ourselves with what would become the new normal for us when the unexpected happened.

She had been anticipating her period two weeks earlier but it refused to show face. As we searched for answers, somewhere there, I suspected she was pregnant. She was worried about getting pregnant since she does not want to have any at the time. I was trying hard to get into her emotions but it was difficult as she was in between two feelings; the ups and downs that come with anticipating painful menstruation and the feeling of uncertainty about being pregnant. It would seem that the universe has something in store for us!

It was not until the third week that she decided that she might have conceived, given that her period has refused to come. I decided that I would go ahead with the pregnancy test because she was still doubting. While returning from work the next day, I stopped by a Chemist and got two pregnancy test strips. The next morning, I made her urinate while I ran the test. Guess what? The result was positive. At this point, I was shocked, surprised, and scared because she was indifferent. The expression on her face was neither that of happiness nor sadness. No amount of planning and no amount of precautionary measures could have prepared me for this momentous event in my life. I felt like a total stranger who woke up one morning with no recollection of what he did the previous day. I do not know what to expect from my wife.
